Eco-Church
As Christians it is our responsibility to care for God’s earth, using resources wisely so that climate change is mitigated, biodiversity protected or enhanced, finite resources conserved, and waste and pollution minimised.
As part of our response here at the Abbey we are participating in the A Rocha UK Eco Church award scheme.
Eco Church provides a framework to support practical action, structured around five areas of church life, and helps guide and assess progress towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold Eco Church award.
You will find information here about actions we can take individually and together to help support the environment and our progress to an Eco-Church award.

October
14th October is International E-Waste Day
International E-Waste Day sheds light on ‘invisible’ electronic waste (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – WEEE). This refers to those items you might not even realise you can recycle. It includes things like smoke detectors, electronic toys, e‑cigarettes and cables. Even that broken remote control you’ve got in a drawer could be recycled. See the WEEE Forum for details.
The Recycle your Electricals web site can help you identify drop off points for E-waste recycling. And, if you live in Waltham Abbey (or elsewhere in Epping Forest District), the council will collect small electrical items, batteries and textiles if you put them in separate small carrier bags and leave them on top of any of your bins that are scheduled for collection on that week (see https://www.eppingforestdc.gov.uk/recycling-and-rubbish/what-goes-in-each-bin/ for details).
